Deacon's Benches
Although it seems obvious that a deacon's bench must have originated as a place for a lesser member of the clergy to sit during church services, it's doubtful that many deacon's benches provide that service today. House of Oak & Sofas has sold deacon's benches since it's inception. Commonly they are used as a place to sit down, near the back door or front door, in order to put shoes or boots on or off. Since there are a dozen different styles to coordinate with many of our dining chairs, it is common for the homeowner to add a bench as extra seating for a dining table, and to use as a decorator piece along one wall when not in service. However, when used for dining purposes, it is important to purchase a bench without arms as it is nearly impossible to sit in the bench, without going through a comical acrobatic routine, once it is pushed to the table.
Deacon's benches have become a popular commercial item for our store as well. The bench provides long-life and inexpensive seating for office and professional service's waiting rooms. As they are available in multiple wood choices, choice of stains, and 3, 4 and 5 foot lengths, they can be ordered to fit almost any office configuration.
These are a few of the benches we carry at House of Oak & Sofas. They can be ordered with or without arms.
