Flexsteel furniture is one of the best-selling furniture lines at House of Oak & Sofas. Due to their long-standing reputation for high quality construction, we selected Flexsteel sofas in 1998 to complement our durable Amish-crafted dining and bedroom furniture collections. Since then Flexsteel sales have continued to increase and we now have the largest Flexsteel Gallery in the Shenandoah Valley. The Flexsteel lineup includes sofas, loveseats, sleep sofas, recliners, home theatre seating and an expanding lineup of power lift chairs and power recliners. We deliver upholstered furniture five days a week in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County area, weekly to Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County, and by appointment to outlying areas.
Flexsteel furniture has been in business for 117 years but cemented their place as a leader in the upholstery business early in the twentieth century when they joined with a spring manufacturer and patented their now famous blue steel spring system. At House of Oak & Sofas we have never had a failed spring on a Flexsteel product that we have sold. Unlike 8-way hand-tied springs this patented spring system will never need to be tightened or retied. This is unusual for an upholstery line as popular as Flexsteel and gives credit to the company’s commitment to now cheapen their lifetime-guaranteed blue steel seat spring design. The wood frames on sofas feature overlapping joints reinforced with hardwood blocks, and also take advantage of industrially engineered cross-grain laminated hardwoods for front and back rails.
You might ask, “what really sets Flexsteel sofas apart from the competition?” That is an excellent question and we think our customer testimonials offer the best evidence for why you might choose Flexsteel seating.
The most common complaint we hear from customers who are not satisfied with their current sofa is “what do I do when the foam compresses in my cushions?” That question usually comes from someone who bought a lower quality sofa. The foam in your sofa is one of the most expensive components if it is expected to last 15 years as Flexsteel cushions do. That is why Flexsteel offers a lifetime warranty on all their domestically produced sofa cushions. Inexpensive sofas can not afford this quality of foam as their total cost is less than the price of the foam alone. Most of our satisfied Flexsteel customers have had experience with low-priced promotional sofas that wear out in only a few years, while their Flexsteel sofa continues to provide quality seating just as it did the first day they took it home.
At House of Oak & Sofas our Amish Crafted Furniture gallery continues to grow in size for two reasons. First, since we have been selling Amish furniture since 1985, and think we have secured some of the best builders in Holmes County, Ohio to build the furniture, our collection continues to gain in popularity. Many customers return again and again over a 20 year period as they update their home and add furniture that will be with their family for generations.
The second reason the gallery continues to grow is due to the many original designs that are coming from our Amish craftsmen. As we have noted before, where the Amish once only built styles of furniture that were familiar to their homes, furniture now includes technology driven furniture such as computer desks and flat screen television stands, as well as new and innovative designs in contemporary and transitional bedroom and dining room furniture. Stop in at House of Oak & Sofas on South Main Street in Harrisonburg and see the new style introductions featuring Arts and Crafts dining and bedroom furniture and innovative uses of multiple species and stains in the same piece of furniture. One of our best-selling furniture items right now is an entertainment stand that features both elm and maple wood species stained in contrasting stains. This movement toward more unusual woods and mixed staining is an exciting trend that enhances the current movement toward more casual and transitionally styled homes.
Commercial customers are also realizing that spending a little more for sturdy Amish-crafted dining chairs in the beginning can eliminate years of frustration maintaining low quality chairs and barstools. These sales have increased the size of our Amish-crafted furniture gallery to over 10,000 square feet of our store.

Although many homes have both, yesterday's "living room," the room where people did most of their living, including visiting, snacking and watching TV, has been replaced in most homes by the family room. Homes which have both rooms usually relegate the living room to more formal, (and seldom used) furniture and the room takes the place of the parlor of bygone years. In either case the furnishings for living and family rooms are similar.
Formal dining is slowing in popularity. Although aging empty nesters with large homes make certain they have a large formal dining table to seat as many children and grandchildren as possible, more often a much more casual large dining area is incorporated into the family or "great" room.
In choosing bedroom furniture, the first consideration will be what broad category you identify yourself with: uptown urban, garden cottage, traditional or exotic. A half hour visit in our Harrisonburg, Virginia furniture store, with a good salesperson, will help you determine which of these broad categories resonate best with you.
Whether you browse through our online store or visit our brick-and-mortar store, we hope you find the furniture of your dreams.
