The Design Center
The House of Oak & Sofas Design Center gives our furniture store another
way to assist you in room planning, choosing paint colors, and selecting
furniture, accessories, rugs and
window treatments.
Whether you are working on a tight budget, or are ready to "splurge a bit,"
the House of Oak & Sofas Design Team will listen to you and help you achieve
the "rooms of your dreams." Our interior home furnishings specialists have
successfully completed projects from Baltimore to Myrtle Beach - from one
room to entire homes. In addition, we continue to place
window treatments
and solid wood furniture in commercial locations where quality standards
meet the rigors of everyday use.
The Living Room or Family Room
Although many homes have both, yesterday's "living room," the room where people did most of their living, including visiting, snacking and watching TV, has been replaced in most homes by the family room. Homes which have both rooms usually relegate the living room to more formal, (and seldom used) furniture and the room takes the place of the parlor of bygone years. In either case the furnishings for living and family rooms are similar. In the House of Oak & Sofas furniture store, you will find dozens of frame styles and thousands of fabrics to help you find the most beautiful sofas and chairs for your home — of course, with the assistance of our experienced sales staff.
Sofas and chairs are the most significant furnishings here. In the family room, these items get extensive use, and where there are children and teenagers living, trampoline-like quality is essential. Although inexpensive sofas look good on the showroom floor, they are best used in areas that receive minimal use. Sofas built using high quality foam and spring systems are expected to last from 10-20 years. Budget-priced sofas are lucky to last half as long with regular daily use. A good warranty from a reputable brand name will absorb much of the worry that comes with buying a new sofa expected to last from 10-20 years. More tips on living and family room decorating.
The Dining Room
Formal
dining is slowing in popularity. Although aging empty nesters with large
homes make certain they have a large formal dining table to seat as many
children and grandchildren as possible, more often a much more casual large
dining area is incorporated into the family or "great" room.
In choosing appropriate dining room furniture, the House of Oak & Sofas furniture store salesperson pays close attention to the dining habits of those living in the house. In a new house, perhaps with a full bar located in the kitchen, dining habits can change significantly. In some homes, sit-up meals, with everyone dining around a table at the same time, are virtually non-existent. More tips on choosing dining room furniture.
The Bedroom
In
choosing bedroom
furniture, the first consideration will be what broad category you identify
yourself with: uptown urban, garden cottage, traditional or exotic. A half
hour visit in our Harrisonburg, Virginia furniture store, with a good salesperson,
will help you determine which of these broad categories resonate with you.
Once you have your style chosen, the pieces for a bedroom are fairly standard. King beds increase in popularity every year, but occasionally a customer will downsize from a king to a queen. New homes have large closets and built-in storage which leaves more room for non-traditional furniture in the bedroom. Most popular are loveseats, chaises and large chairs. An area rug to set off that part of the room is also an important part of the collection. So stop in and visit with a House of Oak & Sofas associate to see how you might re-furnish your bedroom: to make it speak the language that reflects your personality. Amish Crafted Furniture
The
Amish have always understood the fine qualities of wood and its structural
versatility. From massive barns to children's toys, their ingenuity in this
craft is remarkable.
At the House of Oak & Sofas furniture store, we present the finest chairs that we have seen—sturdy seats, strong spindles, and wood screws in all major joints. All spindles are custom fit and driven together with mallets so the chairs will stay tight. Most of the furniture comes from Holmes County, Ohio where the world's largest settlement of Amish live. Amish chairs are only a small part of our Amish Collection which includes bedroom and dining furniture, as well as Amish entertainment furniture.
Whether you browse through our online store or visit one of our brick-and-mortar stores, we hope you find the furniture of your dreams.
